Why it matters
The overview absorbs the clicks that used to go to the top organic results, but it also creates a new top position: being one of its sources. For many queries, that placement now matters more than ranking #1 underneath it.
How it works
Google generates the overview from pages it already indexes and trusts, favouring content that answers the question directly and can be attributed cleanly. Classic SEO still decides whether you're in the candidate pool; answer-shaped content decides whether you're quoted from it.
What to do about it
Check your priority queries: does an overview appear, and who's cited in it? Where you're absent, restructure the relevant page to answer the question in its first lines, then keep the underlying SEO fundamentals healthy, because they're still the entry ticket.
