AI VisibilityReviewed by Mark S.

Zero-click search

A zero-click search is one that ends without the user visiting any website: the answer appeared right on the results page or in an AI response. For informational questions, this is now the majority behaviour, not the exception.

Why it matters

If your content strategy is judged purely on traffic, zero-click makes it look like failure even when your visibility is growing. The buyer still heard your name and your claim: the influence just happened off your analytics. Businesses that only count sessions systematically underinvest in the surfaces buyers use.

How it works

Results pages and assistants increasingly resolve the query in place: featured snippets, knowledge panels, AI Overviews, or a chat answer. The engine extracts what it needs from source pages and presents it directly, sometimes with a small citation link that a minority of users click.

What to do about it

Add presence metrics to the traffic ones: how often are you the source behind the answer, and is what's said accurate? Then write pages so the extracted version still carries your name and your point.
