Some builders take on volume. Grey Goose takes on difficulty. Since 2010, they've delivered architecturally significant residences across Melbourne's inner east and greater Melbourne's south: homes of a scale and complexity most builders won't quote, designed by leading architects and built to hold their quality for generations. The reputation was already made. The website was the last place it didn't reach.
Reputations travel further than word of mouth now. The first thing a prospective client does after a dinner-party recommendation is look the builder up. The first thing an architect does before adding a name to a tender list is the same. And what they found was a templated brochure site that could have belonged to any builder in the state. Everything that made Grey Goose worth recommending, the awards shortlists, the magazine features, the architects who bring them project after project, was invisible at the exact moment it mattered most.
Walking the work
Early in the engagement, we toured the Maison Bénie residence in Templestowe, because you can't design for craftsmanship you've only read about. It's a home of serious scale, and the first thing that strikes you is that it never feels like one. No cavernous empty volumes, no rooms that exist to impress a floor plan. Every space feels like it belongs: proportioned, purposeful, lived in before anyone's moved in.
Then the details start revealing themselves. The staircase treads are cut deeper and more gradual than standard, so climbing them feels effortless. A decision nobody would ever ask for and everyone would feel. The proportions hold everywhere you look: windows to doors, doors to walls, room to room. Nothing announces itself. Everything is simply right.
We later visited a Grey Goose site mid-construction, and the same character was there before the walls were: clean, ordered, every trade's work squared away. The quality isn't applied at the end. It's how they build.
Designing the way they build
Those observations became the design brief. The website works the way the staircase does: effortless on purpose. Generous pacing, a scroll that never rushes, navigation that takes no thought. The proportions are held to the same standard: a strict grid, exacting type scale, ratios that stay consistent from the first screen to the last. And like the home, there's no empty space for its own sake. Every section earns its place or it isn't there.
Building for two rooms
Every Grey Goose project has two decision-makers: the architect who recommends, and the client who commits. Each needs a different kind of confidence. Architects need to know their documentation will be honoured, built as drawn, nothing value-engineered away in silence. Clients need transparency and access: open-book pricing, a director personally across their site. Rather than writing one message and hoping it lands twice, we threaded both audiences through the entire site: separate pathways from the first screen, a dedicated route for architects, and answers written to settle each room on its own terms.
The quiet position
Grey Goose accepts a small number of homes each year. That's not a limitation. It's the entire proposition. So the site opens there: a select number of residences, delivered alongside Melbourne's leading architects. Most builder websites signal hunger. This one signals judgement. For a client about to entrust years and a family home to a builder, judgement is the thing being bought.
Letting the work carry it
Sites in this category drown in the word premium. This one never needs it. Floor areas and coordinates on every project, drawn from the language of architectural documentation. Licence numbers in the footer. The press and awards record stated plainly and left alone. And the palette leans into the grey of the name itself: tonal, quiet, generous with space, trusting the homes to bring the warmth.
Built to last, like the homes
Beneath the design, we built Grey Goose a structured content platform they fully own: fast in a way templated platforms can't reach, simple to publish to, and with no ceiling on where the brand goes next. The journal and the questions pages aren't decoration. They're built for how people find builders now, through Google and the AI answer engines, structured around what clients and architects genuinely ask.
A digital presence that finally holds the same standard as the homes: the selectiveness, the craft, and the record all visible from the first screen. A content structure built to compound in search over the coming year. Delivered in four weeks, in time for a Channel Nine feature, with nothing cut to get there.
