Brand awareness

Brand awareness is how many of your potential buyers know you exist, and whether you come to mind unprompted when your category does. It's the top of every funnel: people can't choose what they can't recall.

Why it matters

Most buyers aren't in-market today; awareness decides whose name surfaces when they finally are. It's why brand activity that "doesn't convert" this quarter still fills next year's pipeline, and why measuring everything on immediate response starves future demand.

How it works

Awareness builds through repeated, distinctive presence where your buyers already look: consistent content, category conversations, memorable work that gets shared. Proxies for tracking it: branded search volume, direct traffic, "how did you hear about us" answers, and mention volume.

What to do about it

Balance the budget between harvesting demand (search, ads) and creating it (content, brand presence). Watch branded search as the slow scoreboard: it trends with awareness better than most surveys.
