Why it matters
Every new offering raises the question "does this get its own name?", and accumulated wrong answers produce a confusing portfolio where marketing spend splits across names that don't reinforce each other. Clean architecture lets every launch borrow strength from what's already trusted.
How it works
The spectrum runs from branded house (one name, many offers: think a services firm) to house of brands (many names, hidden parent). The right point depends on whether audiences overlap, whether offers risk contaminating each other's reputation, and how much marketing budget you can genuinely split.
What to do about it
Default to one strong brand until forced otherwise: most growing businesses dilute themselves by naming things too eagerly. Name separately only when audiences or risk genuinely can't be shared.
